Frequently Asked Questions on Klim Rogue Armor (all types)
What is Klim Rogue armor?
Klim’s new Rogue armor is made of an advanced proprietary compound of impact-absorbing polymers, molded in an engineered pattern to manage impact force absorption, coverage, flexibility and breathability. All Klim Rogue Level 1, Level 2 and Level 2 EXP limb protectors meet the corresponding impact level in all four CE-testing weather condition requirements (ambient, wet, hot, cold). This provides impact force mitigation across a real-world temperature range with exceptional breathability, flexibility and light weight.
Why is Klim creating its own armor line?
Klim were looking for THINNER, LIGHTER, MORE BREATHABLE armor than what they used in the past, while maintaining or improving impact absorption levels, in an initiative to improve rider comfort without sacrificing protection characteristics.
When Klim looks for a solution to a gear problem, they first look all over the market for a solution that matches what we need. If they can’t find exactly what they want, they spend the time and money to develop it themselves exactly how they want it.
In this case, in all of their testing, nothing met the needs for a THINNER, LIGHTER, MORE BREATHABLE pad system that would meet or exceed the desired impact testing levels, so they developed an in-house protector system over the span of multiple years.
How long did it take to create an armor system?
About five years of total development time. This included building out a rapid prototyping lab, a hard parts department and team, hundreds of tests on different structures and compounds, and of course lengthy field testing.
What are the four CE testing conditions for motorcycle armor?
First of all, great question! Not many people know that there are multiple different testing conditions for motorcycle armor, nor do they know the details of those test conditions.
Ambient (required to pass for given CE level) Pad is acclimated at 73.4ºF or 23ºC and 50% relative humidity for a minimum of 48 hours before testing.
Wet (required to pass for given CE level) Pad is first exposed to humidity directly above 158ºF or 70ºC water for 72 hours. Pad is then stored in a sealed bag (to keep the moisture content) and acclimated at ambient temperature (73.4ºF or 23ºC) for 24 hours before testing.
Cold (T-) (optional to pass for given CE level) 14ºF or -10ºC for 24 hours.
Hot (T+) (optional to pass for given CE level) 104ºF or 40ºC for 24 hours.
Is Rogue Level 1 and 2 backwards compatible with older Klim gear?
Yes! Look at the compatibility chart (below) or reach out to customer service to get an exact match for your older pads in prior generation Klim gear.
Is Rogue Level 1 and 2 compatible with other motorcycle gear?
Reach out to customer service to verify if Rogue armor will be compatible with your gear. Rogue should generally fit most standard motorcycle pad pockets. Rogue EXP is a proprietary pad shape to Klim gear, reference our compatibility chart for fit with older Badlands Pro and Badlands Pro A3 suits.
What is Rogue EXP Level 2 and how is it different from the other Rogue armor?
Rogue EXP Level 2 is a Klim-proprietary limb armor system that offers expanded protection (hence the name EXP) by covering significantly more surface area than required for standard CE-rated armor.
Rogue EXP Level 2 limb armor passes all four CE armor testing conditions: Ambient (required), Wet (required), Cold (optional) and Hot (optional). Many armor options on the market only pass the two required conditions and maybe one of the optional ones. Klim refused to compromise in the pursuit of an all-weather armor system, knowing that a large portion of motorcycle riding occurs in temperatures at or near the “Hot” testing conditions (+40ºC or 104ºF) (imagine how hot your pads get when you’re in the sun on a hot 80º-90ºF day). Likewise, the technical nature of Klim’s gear and layering systems can allow riders to push into very cold temperatures, necessitating the armor also pass Cold conditions (-10ºC or 14ºF).
Rogue EXP Level 2 armor is engineered to maximize coverage while optimizing mobility. Each limb and pad location is unique and asymmetrical, meaning left and right knees, hips, elbows and shoulders each get their own specific pad design. This allows for an average of 44% more coverage area than standard CE size pads.
Rogue EXP Level 2 armor is only compatible with 2026 Badlands Pro, Badlands Pro A3, and Kodiak, plus certain prior generations of Badlands Pro and Badland Pro A3 gear. Refer to customer service or our compatibility chart to confirm.
Why are Rogue EXP Level 2 pads available in compact and standard sizes?
Klim offers compact sizes for Rogue EXP Level 2 because they use these proportionally smaller pads in the smaller sizes of EXP-equipped gear, such as Badlands Pro, Badlands Pro A3 and the latest Kodiak. This gives a more fitted and comfortable experience for the smaller sizes of jackets and pants. Jackets size Medium and smaller get compact pads. Pants size 30 and smaller get compact pads.
How thick are the Rogue limb protectors?
Level 1 Rogue 7.5mm thick
Level 2 and Level 2 EXP: 11mm thick
What’s the total weight savings for a complete Jacket + Pant combo using Rogue armor instead of the prior option?
Total weight savings for a jacket/pant combo with each armor type:
Level 1: 133 grams (.29 lbs) saved
Level 2: 297 grams (.65 lbs) saved
Level 2 EXP: 243 grams (.53 lbs) saved
How much more breathable are the new Rogue pads in comparison to the prior armor?
175%-725% more breathable, depending on the specific pad
