Alpinestars brings you the Tech-Air 5 PLASMA System. The Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 PLASMA Airbag System is the latest evolution in intelligent motorcycle protection, engineered to meet the demands of modern riders with an ultra-lightweight, low-profile design that fits seamlessly beneath your riding jacket. Its ultra-slim construction delivers a virtually “invisible” fit, allowing unrestricted movement and all-day comfort while providing advanced upper-body protection across critical torso areas to help reduce injury risk during a crash.
Built on Alpinestars’ industry-leading Tech-Air technology, the Tech-Air 5 PLASMA provides comprehensive upper-body coverage and features an anatomically contoured airbag bladder with strategically positioned cutaways to maximise protection across the chest, ribs, back, and shoulders while maintaining a compact, low-profile design. Its integrated, streamlined Nucleon PLASMA back protector is constructed from an advanced viscoelastic compound co-injected with elastomer materials, for a slim, flexible, ventilated structure while delivering an exceptional balance of impact protection, flexibility, breathability, and ventilation. The back protector is positioned to reinforce full-back impact protection and complement the airbag’s coverage. Its contoured design seamlessly integrates around the electronics housing to maintain continuous protective coverage and secure integration within the system.
Powered by an advanced crash detection algorithm, the Tech-Air 5 PLASMA features three dedicated Riding Modes – Street, Off-Road, and Race – allowing riders to optimize protection for different riding environments.
Street Mode: Optimized for asphalt roads including situations in which the rider’s motorcycle is hit by another vehicle while stopped.
Race Mode: Designed for any type of closed course track use.
Off-Road Mode: Allows adventure riders to push the envelope and capabilities of performance off-road riding even further while being protected.
After the System has been correctly switched on, the User can easily switch between the three different Riding Modes by pressing the System Button for 2 seconds. A solid green LED will appear on the Riding Mode LED indicating which Riding Mode is currently running. Cycle through the modes until the desired mode is selected. The Tech-Air 5 PLASMA Airbag System’s LED button can be used to check the system’s status. Simply press the button; a vibration indicates the system is functioning correctly.
A lightweight single-canister inflator reduces overall system weight while enabling rapid airbag deployment for responsive protection. After deployment, the user-replaceable gas inflator (where legally permitted) and quick-release service cover allow the system to be restored quickly, minimizing downtime and getting you back on the road sooner.
Weighing just 1530g, the Tech-Air 5 PLASMA is more than 25% lighter than the Tech-Air 5, making it the lightest Tech-Air System to date. This lighter system reduces bulk and rider fatigue for enhanced comfort on every ride. A minimal use of plastic components further reduces overall weight while promoting unrestricted airflow throughout the chassis. An ultra-thin mono-layer stretch mesh chassis at the collar, underarms, and front panels ensures low material mass and high airflow, while an ergonomic sleeve pattern with a deeper underarm cut reduces material stacking and seam bulk. The extended rear hem and contoured, low-cut neckline increase coverage while minimizing edge-to-skin contact. The chassis is engineered to align with Alpinestars jacket ventilation channels, ensuring a direct vent path through mesh zones. The stretch mesh chassis is designed to follow the shape of the airbag, reducing the system’s overall material bulk. The full-stretch construction is designed for superior breathability, with a moisture-wicking treatment for maximum rider comfort.
When the activation zip has been fully zipped to the top, the system will automatically turn on. A haptic feedback vibration will indicate that the system is on. Automatic arming when zipped via the internal magnetic sensor, intuitive LED and haptic status alerts, up to 30 hours of battery life per charge, and a modular design make the system simple to use, service, maintain, and ready for every ride. Available in eight sizes (XS–4XL), the Tech-Air 5 PLASMA offers a comfortable, tailored fit for a wide range of riders.
Bluetooth connectivity to a Tech-Air App allows monitoring of both the System’s operational status and battery status, and mapping your journey via MyRide.
The Tech-Air 5 PLASMA Airbag System and all included protective parts are Category II certified PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) under European Regulation (UE) 2016/425 and in compliance under corresponding UK legislation. The passive back protector is CE certified according to EN 1621-2:2014 Level 1 (Full Back). The inflatable protector is CE certified according to EN 1621-4:2013 Level 1 (Full Back). The system is CE certified as a protective garment for motorcycle riders according to EN 17092-6:2020 as a Class C undergarment. The airbag is certified for up to six deployments before requiring replacement.
