Alpinestars brings you the Tech-Air Off-Road System. The Tech-Air Off-Road is a FIM homologated Airbag System designed specifically to handle the rigors of Rally riding and provide unrivalled upper body protection. Developed and tested since 2017, in the most grueling conditions of the Dakar Rally, the world’s toughest off-road race, the Tech-Air Off-Road System offers the most advanced active airbag technology for off-road riding.
The Alpinestars Tech-Air Off-Road System is engineered to deliver class-leading protection for the demands of off-road riding. FIM Cross-Country Rally Regulations homologated and fully certified under Dolomiticert protocols for Enduro, Rally, and Street riding, it is proven to provide more than twice the protection of conventional passive impact protectors.
In the event of a crash, the airbag deploys in an average of 52 milliseconds (size dependent), providing CE Level 1 protection to the chest, back, shoulders, collarbones, and neck, with the inflated collar offering dedicated neck protection in compliance with FIM standards. Complementing the active airbag, the integrated Protection Jacket features a CE Level 2 Nucleon CELL passive chest protector, CE Level 1 back, shoulder, and elbow protectors, and additional roost padding on the chest and arms for enhanced protection against rocks, debris, and trail hazards. The elbow and shoulder protectors are replaceable. Honeycomb Nucleon CELL technology is used on both the chest and back protectors.
Note: Due to the integrated neck airbag design, the Tech-Air Off-Road System is not compatible with any neck brace, including the Alpinestars Bionic Neck Support (BNS).
The Tech-Air Off-Road System features a dual-charge deployment design, with one gas inflator activating per crash while the second remains in reserve, ensuring continued protection on extended rides. User-replaceable gas inflators (where local regulations permit) enable quick turnaround between rides without the need to return the system for servicing. The airbag is certified for up to four deployments before replacement, provided it remains undamaged.
Built tough enough to tackle any terrain, the System comes pre-loaded with three Riding Modes; ENDURO, RALLY, and STREET, and is fully certified under Dolomiticert protocols for all three. The LED Display button enables on-the-fly ride mode switching, provides Tech-Air system status and a battery level indicator.
Street Mode – Optimized for asphalt roads and traffic conditions including situations in which the rider may encounter another vehicle in an accident.
Enduro Mode – Optimized for low and medium-speed trail and off-road action on any terrain.
Rally Mode – Optimized for fast off-road action on any type of terrain and at high speeds.
The state-of-the-art wearable Tech-Air Off-Road System is equipped with a fully self-contained, standalone system; 3 accelerometers (1 triaxial accelerometer) and 3 gyroscopes (1 triaxial gyroscope) are integrated into the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to provide the best crash monitoring performance and active airbag protection in a variety of dynamic off-road riding scenarios. No external sensors are required for the system to operate. A long-lasting rechargeable battery provides up to 30 hours of runtime and recharges via USB-C, reaching a full charge in approximately 4 hours or delivering around 8 hours of use from just a 1-hour top-up. For added convenience, the system automatically powers on when the jacket is zipped and safely switches off when unzipped, while a dedicated Shipping Mode disconnects the battery during transport or long-term storage to conserve power. The removable ECU and airbag assembly can also be easily detached, allowing the Protection Jacket to be washed and simplifying routine maintenance.
Built for comfort, durability, and all-day performance, the Tech-Air Off-Road System features a low-profile, ergonomic chassis designed to fit comfortably beneath a properly fitting motorcycle jacket. Its breathable stretch-mesh construction with open-structure panels promotes airflow while maintaining a close-to-body fit, and the lateral zipper closure ensures continuous chest panel coverage. The integrated CE-certified Nucleon CELL back protector houses the electronics and inflator mounts, while the sealed electronics enclosure is ECE R10 04 homologated for reliable all-weather performance in temperatures ranging from −10°C to 50°C. Additional practical features include an internal hydration bladder sleeve with hanger supporting 1.5–3 litre reservoirs, an integrated Bluetooth module for firmware updates and system monitoring, and a total system weight of approximately 3.9–4.22 kg, depending on size.
